Against the Grain

Against the Grain

Set routines and rhythms,
We frown and bit our lips
When interruptions spring to life
And our whole world jumps back flips.

Anger and defensiveness rise up–
Break the rules, we care not,
So we take the cake
     The battles never fought.

Resentment reigns in the land,
     Our hearts clouded with pain,
Yet we desire a difference–
New ways to go against the grain.

Yes, listen now to His words–
     Listen to Papa’s sweet voice
Of how He loves you,
     And quiets the enemy’s noise.

How He loves, how He loves,
To call you daughters and sons–
To name you Adored, Beloved,
And pour His breath by the tons.

Oh, Brothers and Sisters, listen close,
God wishes to speak again and again,
But we must open our hearts
To walk more against the grain!

About Cleaver of God

A wordsmith rhymes with the times to share his heart, After a trip around the world, now the start To look ahead and write the lines That will begin to affect change all around, So hear the sound and see the pines Within the realm we found. My name is A.J. Wagoner and I love poetry; however, I also love this world and want to see the darkness turned to light, so my poetry rides the wings of eagles to bring hope to the hopeless, a voice to the voiceless, and a light to the darkness.
